Location

The
Corbett National Park is located in the foothills of Himalaya, in the
northern Indian state of Uttranchal.
An Overview
Once the hunting ground of British, the Jim Corbett National Park was set
up in 1936 with the help of World Wildlife Fund. It was named in the honour
of the famous hunter and naturalist Jim Corbett who contributed a lot in
setting up the park. It has a wide varieties plant and animal species
including the majestic tigers, leopards and elephants. In the year 1973, the
park came under the Project Tiger Scheme to preserve the population of
tigers. It is the first national park of India to come under this project.
Climate & Ideal Time to Visit
The climate of park is hot during summer with a maximum temperature of 44
degrees C and cold in winters with a minimum temperature of 4 degrees C. The
area receives an annual rainfall of 1400 to 2800 mm. The remains closed
during monsoon from the month of June to November. So the ideal time to
visit the park is from the November to June.
Entry Fee
The entry fee for foreign tourists and for Indian is Rs 350 and Rs
30/person(for 2 days) respectively. Entry fee for jeep, movie camera, still
camera, safaris will have to be paid separately.
Wildlife Attractions
The Corbett National Park is home to a large number of wildlife species
including 110 tree species, 50 mammal species and 580 bird species.
» Flora - A major portion of the park is consist of
tress like Sal, Chir, Anauri, Bakli, Bamboo, Lantana and several other.
» Fauna - The park is popular for its population of
Bengal Tiger and elephant. Other wildlife in the park includes leopard,
civet, Indian Gray Mongoose, Common Otter, Jungle Cat, Sloth bears, Black
naked hare, langur, Sambar deer, Barking deer and Porcupine.
» Avi-fauna - Corbett has around 600 bird species
including herons, darters, fishing eagles, spotted eagles, barbets,
peacocks, sandpiper, ducks, jungle fowl and many more. Its rich bird life
makes it one of the popular birdwatching spot in India.
Activities
Jim Corbett National Park provide facilities for Jeep Safari,Elephant
Safari, Horse Safari and Nature Walk. The Tourist Centre of the park arrange
jeeps to travel within the park. But elephant safari is the best option to
penetrate deeper inside the park to explore its wildlife.
Accommodation

Several
forest rest houses and private lodges at Dhikla, Khinanauli, Sarpduli and
other nearby areas of the park provide tourist accommodation. Accommodation
is also available in hotels, resorts and lodges at Ramnagar.
Nearby Attractions
» Fishing Base Camp in Ramnagar - Ramnagar provides
an excellent opportunity to the anglers for angling and fishing along the
river Kosi. For this, permission is granted by the Project Tiger Office in
Ramnagar.
» Jeep & Elephant Safari - Jeep Safari and
Elephant Safari are the most convenient ways to travel within the park. The
Forest Department provide all the basic facilities for jungle safaris.
Tourist lodges and travel agencies also provide jeeps for the park trips.
Access
» Air - Phoolbagh in Patnagar is the nearest
domestic airport at a distance of 50 km. Delhi(300km) is the nearest
international airport.
» Rail - Ramnagar is the nearest railhead which is
connected to other parts of North India. One can also reach the park via
Moradabad.
» Road - The national park is easily accessible from
Lucknow, Delhi, Ramnagar via Dhikla. Delhi Transport Corporation(DTC) also
has frequent bus services to the national park.
