Location

The
Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary is situated in the town of Bharatpur, in the
northwestern state of Rajasthan.
An Overview
The Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary is one of the finest bird sanctuaries in the
world. Now known as the Keoladeo Ghana National park, the area of the
sanctuary was declared a national park in the year 1982. In the year 1985,
it came in the list of UNESCO's World Heritage Site. With an area of 29 sq.
km, the sanctuary houses numerous varieties of bird population with animals
like Sambar, Chital, Nilgai and Boar.
Climate & Ideal Time to Visit
During the months of summer(April-June) the temperature of the park varies
between 38 to 45 degrees C and during winters the minimum temperature falls
down to 10 degrees C. October to November is the most ideal time to visit
the park as during this period migratory birds arrive here on a large
number. Also the months from August to November is the time for spotting
several resident birds.
Entry Fee
The Ranger of the park provide entry permit to the visitors. Foreigners
have to pay an entry fee of Rs 200 while Indians have to pay Rs 25. For the
entry of cameras and photographic equipments separate entry fees are
required.

Flora - The park comprises of a diverse variety of flora which are best
places for nesting numerous bird species including migratory. Kadam forest
and grassland consist a major portion of its vegetation.
» Avi-fauna - In its 29 sq. km area, the sanctuary
houses more than 300 species of birds including numerous migratory. Some of
the major migratory birds include several species of cranes, pelicans,
geese, ducks, eagles, larks and hawks. The migrants are generally come from
the Siberia and Central Asia.
» Fauna - Besides a large varieties of birds, the
park is also home to mammal like sambar, chital, nilgai(blue bull) and boar.
Activities
Walking and cycling along the forest paths of the park are the best ways to
explore its rich bird life. One can also hire a cycle rickshaws for
birdwatching. Boat trips in morning and evening provide an excellent
opportunity to explore the hidden treasure of the sanctuary.
Accommodation
Two forest lodges inside the park provides accommodation facilities for its
tourists. Besides, there are a number of guest houses, forest lodges and
hotels in the town of Bharatpur, which provide comfortable tourist
accommodation.
